Stephen Pasternak

Stephen Pasternak, age 95, of Johnstown, passed away on April 3, 2026 at home. Born on May 21, 1930, he was the son of Henry “Harry” and Sophie (Kotella) Pustelnik.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Barbara (Roach); his sisters, Rose Brindza/Hilboky, Ann Brasich, and Sophie Bracken; and his brother, Harry Pasternak. He was also preceded in death by his nephews, Larry and Allen, and his niece, Jeanne.

Steve is survived by his wife, Doris (Wiegand) Pasternak; his daughter, Karen Marie, wife of Rick Turner of Dayton, Ohio; and his son, Gregg, married to Tricia Armstrong of Fort Mill, South Carolina. He was the proud grandfather of Matthew and Melissa Turner, Ryan Pasternak, and great‑grandfather of Brandon Pasternak.

A graduate of Johnstown High School. Steve began his professional journey as a student intern with Pennsylvania Electric (Penelec). After graduation, he served two years of active duty in the U.S. Army, followed by eight years in the Army Reserves. Upon completing his active service, he returned to Penelec, where he held numerous positions over an exceptional 46‑year career, retiring in 1994.

Steve was a devoted and longtime parishioner of Saint Therese Parish. He sang in the Senior Choir, past president and treasurer of the Holy Name Society, served on the St. Therese St. Vincent de Paul Committee, and a member of the church finance committee. He generously volunteered his time to parish fundraising efforts, including the annual church festival and the beloved St. Therese pierogi project. He was also a Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council #4604, where he served many years as Council Treasurer.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to his personal caregivers—Monica, Nicole, Kayla; Lindsay RN, and Susan of Conemaugh Regional Hospice for their dedicated care. 

Friends will be received from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, April 12, at the Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel (1622 Menoher Blvd). A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 13, at St. Therese Catholic Church (536 Decker Ave). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Therese Catholic Church in his memory.
