Thomas J. Frieben, 79, Christiansburg, Virginia, formerly of Johnstown, passed away November 11, 2022, in Virginia. Born December 3, 1942, in Johnstown, son of the late Joseph M. and Bertha (Swarney) Frieben.
Survived by loving wife of 50 years, the former Karen (Figula); son, Joseph, married to the former Michelle Li, Roanoke, Virginia; daughter, Kara, married to Evan Mongiardo, Wayne, New Jersey; grandchildren, Thomas Frieben and Irys Bowser. Also survived by brother, Kenneth (Donna) Frieben, Johnstown; sister, Christine (Abdullah) Al-Yahya, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; brother, James (Kim) Frieben, Johnstown.
Tom was a graduate of Ferndale High School, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He worked for 35 years as a history and geography teacher at Ferndale. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many years of golfing with friends at Berkley Hills Golf Course. However, his most beloved activity was spending time with his two grandchildren he adored.
Friends will be received from 4-6 PM Friday, November 25, 2022, at Frank Duca Funeral Home, Westmont Chapel, 1622 Menoher Blvd. Johnstown PA 15905.
