Vernon W. Walker, 64 of Upper Yoder, died suddenly on February 22, 2025, ending a marriage of 36 1/2 years.
Born December 28, 1960 in Johnstown. Son of Robert Walker and Shirley (Killinger) Statler. Preceded in death by his father, stepfather Walter “Buck” Statler, uncle Robert “Rusty” Killinger, sister Wanda Holton, stepbrother Kenneth Statler, in-laws Earl and Louise Adams, and brother-in-law Kenneth Adams.
Survived by his loving wife Karen (Adams), children Erica Stahl (Michael), Megan Kuhn (Adam), Brian Walker (Miranda Turner), Matthew Walker (Justine Zimmerman); grandchildren Audrey and Henry Stahl, Colt, Adaline, and Eleanor Walker, Olivia Kuhn, and grand dogs Sam and Meadow. Survived by sisters Linda Coy (Ron Ditko) and Vicky Clark (Douglas), brother-in-law Frank Sturm, and special cousin Colleen Walker. Also survived by sister-in-law Shirley Custer (Robert), and brother-in-law David Adams (Nancy Farren). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He was a graduate of Conemaugh Valley High School class of 1979, and a graduate of St. Francis University receiving a BS in Accounting. He retired after 26 years with Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in the Information Systems Department. Vern was currently the CFO for Heritage Johnstown (formerly J.A.H.A).
Vern was a member of the Johnstown Jaycees in the 1980s. He was a member of the Upper Yoder Township Sewer Authority, serving as Chairman for the past several years. Vern was a girls softball coach at West Suburban Little League, volunteer for Westmont Hilltop girls softball team from 2006-2010. He umpired little league games throughout the summer. He was Troop Leader, then Scout Master of Troop 183, achieving 25 Eagle Scouts during his tenure. He was Treasurer, Lay Speaker, and Choir member of Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church. He served as President of Beaverdale Hillclimbs. Vern and Karen are members of the Tremont Club. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love of hunting and fishing with his sons. Vern loved watching his girls play softball and truly enjoyed working with the youth. He also loved being involved with his son Matthew’s hillclimbing.
Vern made sure his kids achieved their dreams and goals throughout their lives, supporting them any way he could. He was extremely proud to walk both of his daughters down the aisle, witnessed his son join the Marine Corps for 5 years, and attended the youngest son’s wedding just last September. His six grandchildren were truly the apple of his eye. He enjoyed spending time with each of them. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Friends also received from 10 to 11 AM, Friday at the church before the service. Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM, conducted by Pastor Carol Hickman at Homestead Avenue United Methodist Church. Private interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
