Vincent Ernest Vargo

Vincent Ernest Vargo, passed away in Johnstown on December 8, 2022. Born April 2, 1933, on 8th Avenue & W. 42nd St., New York City.  Son of John F. Vargo and Anna Labuda Vargo.  Preceded in death by wife, Saundra Shaw Vargo, married December 6, 1958.  Son, Robert E. Vargo, (Amanda).

Loving father of Valoree Vargo, (Bill Baft) Ohio, Vanessa Vargo Wozniak, (John Wozniak), Johnstown. Grandfather of Michael Wozniak (Jessica Lech) Douglassville, Pa., Rachel Wozniak, Oakland, Ca., Cody Vargo, (Kalie), Harper’s Ferry, WV, Jacob and Nick Vargo, Pleasant Hills, Pa.  Great grandfather of Skye Wozniak.

Vince was a 1951 graduate of Johnstown High School.  He grew up in Morrellville and was a softball pitcher.  He was an avid Steeler, Pirate and Pens fan and he loved to play Pinochle.  He could count those cards and always knew what was in everyone’s hand.  His favorite past time was scratching PA Lotto tickets. He also loved Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York.  He was a navy veteran of the Korean War.

After his mother died when he was 10 years old, he was raised by his loving aunts.  They called him Sonny.  So of course, his friends called him Moony. Vince loved spending his summer vacation in Ocean City NJ.  He loved to sit and watch the people go by on the Boardwalk. He worked at Bethlehem Steel in the Gautier plant as a shipper for most of his years.  Thank you to the entire staff at the Allegheny Lutheran Home who took such great care of him.  And his friend Bob, who was his buddy at the home.

We will miss our daddy, but we are comforted in knowing that he is reunited with his mom, who he everyday missed for 80 years, and with our mom and our brother.  We love you Daddy.

A private memorial will be held at a time to be determined.
